As skateboarders, I know many of us are disinterested in politics and generally feel we are on the outskirts of "society" already. And rightly so; as far as I can remember there has not really been a mainstream political movement in the UK that has seemed like it would make the slightest bit of difference to most of our lives. But right now, don't think of it as being in support of a political party or a politician; rather, think of it as fighting against an enemy, for there are dark forces at work. We, normally silent, underground members of society need to stand up and be counted in order to minimise the damage caused by the self-serving interests of the financial elite and the racist, narrow-minded views of a vast section of our population. Don’t be apathetic about this, the threat is real. Over the last ten years here in the UK we have seen a creeping tendency for supposedly central mainstream political parties to be drifting further towards the far right (far right = racists, fascism and dictatorship). This political right-wing drift is toxic as it legitimises far-right beliefs held by small-minded members of our population, the prevalence of which are now massively on the rise. On top of this, under the current conservative government the UK has seen a huge collapse of worker’s wages, poverty up 600%, vital benefits slashed for the disabled and, whilst the government tell us all this is necessary for the good of the economy, the TOP 1000 richest families in the UK have seen their wealth MORE THAN DOUBLE in less than a decade...
